About Asia Cup |
The Asia Cup was conceived in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was created as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries. It was originally scheduled to be held every two years. The first edition was held in 1984 in Sharjah, UAE. Indian cricket team has lifted the Asia cup the most (4)times and appeared in every final apart from the 1986 and 2000 cup.
The ninth edition of the Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in june 2008. |
Format of Asia Cup 2008 |
The format sees two groups of three sides, where each side in each group plays each other once. The top two teams in each group play in knock-out semi-finals, with a one-off final to follow. |
Asia cup 2008 - Schedule |
Tournament will start from june 24, 2008 and will end up on july 6th, 2008. Karachi will host 10 of the 13 matches, while Lahore will host three and all matches will be day-night, starting late in the afternoon. |
